Post Wrap Care, The top tips to maintaining your PPF Wrap

Maintenance is not just a necessity; it's a passion. To ensure your PPF wrap remains in pristine condition and lasts as long as possible, we have compiled a set of invaluable tips and tricks.

The great news is that maintaining your car has become remarkably hassle-free. With a PPF wrap, you won't need to wash it as frequently as you might imagine, and cleaning becomes a breeze due to the protective clear film. So sit back, unwind, and let us unveil our expert advice on preserving that brand-new appearance, as well as the absolute do's and don'ts of PPF wrap care.

How often should I clean my wrap?

The frequency of washing a car with a Paint Protection Film (PPF) depends on various factors such as the driving conditions, climate, and personal preferences. However, generally speaking, you don't need to wash a PPF car as often as a regular car without protection.

The PPF serves as a barrier against dirt, grime, and minor scratches, helping to keep your car looking cleaner for longer. In most cases, a thorough wash every three to four weeks should be sufficient to maintain the appearance of your PPF-wrapped vehicle. We recommend a dry wash with XPEL Paint protection cleaner as your go-to cleaner, with a dry wash every 2 weeks, weekly if you don’t mind putting in extra time on your car.

Of course, if you notice visible dirt, bird droppings, or other contaminants on the surface, it's advisable to clean them off promptly to prevent any potential damage or staining. Additionally, if you frequently drive in harsh conditions or encounter heavy dirt and debris, more frequent washing may be necessary.

Ultimately, it's important to assess the condition of your PPF car regularly and adjust the washing frequency accordingly to ensure it remains in optimal condition.

What products should I use to clean my wrap?

Wet Wash Washing procedure (four to six weeks)

We recommend a 2 bucket wash method to minimize scratches and swirls during the cleaning process. Simply use one bucket for your soap and the other for rinsing.

To make the cleaning process even easier, we suggest using high-quality products such as Gyeon Bathe, a pH-neutral shampoo, Gyeon Smoothie, a scratch-proof washing mitt, and Gyeon Silk Dryer, a high-density towel. These items, along with XPEL cleaner, are all available for purchase in our store.

For those who want an extra-deep clean, consider adding Gyeon Foam to your cleaning routine.

If you’re an extreme cleaner, it’s recommended to foam your vehicle before starting the cleaning process. Simply apply the foam and let it sit for five minutes before rinsing it off. This step can help ensure a thorough and effective cleaning

1. The first step in cleaning your vehicle is to rinse it from top to bottom until it’s completely wet. Next, fill a bucket with warm water and add Gyeon Bathe to it. Use a smoothie (mitt) to wash your car from top to bottom, making sure to rinse the mitt regularly to prevent it from catching any stones or grime. This will help ensure a thorough and effective cleaning.

2. After washing your vehicle with the smoothie mitt, the next step is to rinse it with a hose. We do not recommend using a pressure washer, but if you choose to use one, please stand back and be careful of the PPF (Paint Protection Film) edges to avoid any damage. Rinsing your car with a hose will help ensure all of the dirt and soap suds are removed.

3. Use your Silk dryer (Towel) to dry off your vehicle. This is recommended to avoid water spotting. A technique we like to use is the throw-and-drag method.

Dry Wash (two to three weeks)

A dry wash is a great in between spray and wipe. You can do this as regularly as weekly but depending on how much you do your wet wash we recommend a dry wash in between.

For tougher grime buildup, we recommend using XPEL Cleaner - a highly effective spot wipe that works wonders in between regular cleanings. Give it a try! For those who take their cleaning to the extreme, we recommend using XPEL Boost as a finishing touch on your wash. This product provides an extra coating to the film, helping it to last even longer.

How soon after my vehicle has been wrapped can I wash it?

A minimum of 4 weeks and no high-pressure washing for 8 weeks. We dont recommend high pressure washing but if you do choose to use one, stand at a distance from the vehicle and keep in mind that there is a film with edges on the vehicle so avoid them at all costs.

Can I use a car wash?

No, we don’t recommend using a car wash at all. Remembering your car has a film on it is important. Car washes use recycled water and harsh brushes, it is very likely that a car wash will damage your PPF vehicle.
